A REVIEW ON: MALAFATAN

π

Firstly. I must say, Malapatan is well-represented by every piece printed in this worderfully made zine. From the cover to the contents, wala ko napingis ug worth-it akong Sunday reading grind at 9:00 o'clock in the evening tho 8:00 AM pa man in ko sa work so okay lang. Every piece is created to be printed and sold, gaya ng ginagawa sa pag-KOPRAS—dama mo ang kabigat ng proseso. These 3 authors are really like different TRIBES, iba-iba ang boses sa pagsulat na nakadagdag sa ganda ng buong koleksyon.

I've known GUIAN since my Sigaw Heneral days—2019 or 2020 yata, and I've witnessed his growth. From performing to composing his pieces na minsang dumaan sa mga mapanghusga kong pag-kritik, I'm happy that his getting better at his craft. His poems and story are good introductions for it tackles the people and location. May mga siwang sa paglahad ng kwento ngunit palagi ngang sabi: there is always room for improvements.

I met Ma'am ROSSEL for the first time at a general meeting of a SOX writing group where I was a member (or maybe still a member) but have read some of her pieces before and always—the same comment, she's one of the best storytellers I know. I've enjoyed reading her pieces in this zine, nakadagdag siguro ang oras at lamig ng panahon para maramdaman ko ang nangyayari at literal na dulot sa panit and mga panghitabo. Both stories are heartbreaking.

Ms. ZIA is an "I can't remember when I added" Friend on Facebook, I just found out right after reading and searched her name that we're friends. Maybe I once made a review of her piece or she's a random friend suggestion related to my circle of author or performer friends but anyways, ang pinakanagtatak na piyesa niya dito is Huyop. I can relate to the story—being a broken person in the past, pero I was also captured by the beautiful flow of the story until the ending. Gangisi ko pagtapos. I was also relieved. Her other writings brought me nostalgia and some drew me in awe.

If you want to have a copy of this zine. You may contact Sarangani Writers League or the authors.
