A REVIEW ON: WORDS FROM WATER (SECOND EDITION)

π

Reading this zine made me feel being more human. Your feelings are valid. Your experiences are real. You are not a malfunctioned robot in a simulation. You are a human because someone also tested the same waters just like you. I mostly relate on the concept of the author being a writer himself. Doesn't carry the same baggages but writing them to express, to release, or to have ventilators is the reason. Palamuti na lamang ang mga impresyon.

A good read for a finale of my publication mema reviewer era...

A REVIEW ON: TABI TABI PO

π

Hindi na ito bago sa akin. I am fond of reading comic strips on newspapers and also on some comic themed publications and this is a typical topic. Funny stories ot backstories about Philippine mythical creatures and the likes is always fun to scan down that alerts and enhances my thinking and creativity.

What makes this unique for me is the more modernized attack on the plot and words. Even the characters have up-to-date personality that I think might click to younger readers and even non-readers for them to be encouraged to explore literature. Twists after twists, shocks after shocks.

I like also that parts or some of the pieces are not comedically written like slice of life themed and deep horror/gruesome just to give breaks for the main road of the zine—"para dili sum-od" in other words.

Great illustrations, I commend the artist. For the cover, maybe it'll be more catchy if it's vibrant, added with at least 2 or 3 colors and more modernized figures just to grab attention and realize the general theme of the zine. But they're good, again, OA lang jud ko.

This is my 2nd to last review for now, and the last will be from the same author. An event will pop out later this March at sana makabili kung makabili o baka may mag-donate. Beke nemen.

A REVIEW ON: SEMILYA NI KAMATAYAN

π

Note ni author kay kilalanin ko raw si kamatayan, matagal ko na man siya kilala—nagbalik gani ang memories ko sa kanya doon sa "A Date with Death" pero hindi na niya ako ginasamok (for now).

A REVIEW ON: SARIWANG PINIPIG 120/KG

π

A REVIEW ON: PAULI NA KO—JEEPNEY ENCOUNTERS

π

Not that bad for a first project. Siguro mas marami akong nakitang flaws but theme wise—very on point and walang nalihis ang landas. Technically, needs to improve. I'm looking forward for your next release.

Like what I have said earlier, I saw more thumbs down than up so I'll keep my comments for myself na lang muna. You can join more writing groups outside school to have opportunities to learn more. Padayon.

A REVIEW ON: MGA LAMOK SA TUNGANG GAB-I

π

In this zine are some of the lamok na tuod na samok talaga at hindi makapatulog sa imo kapag nagadalaw sila.

Very witty and naabot talaga expectation ko as the first collection of poems na nabasa ko from the author (tho nakabasa na ako ng mga paisa-isa niyang piyesa online and from other zines)—na-excite ako basahin yong dalawa pa.

A REVIEW ON: MGA CHISMIS SA PUNERARYA

π

A REVIEW ON: LIBON MATAHOM

π

A collection of amazing pieces telling stories about women and indeed, how are they so beautiful "matahom." Congratulations to the writers.

Comments:

Maybe we can think of deeper or more poetic titles for these pieces. A collection or anthology doesn't end on collecting pieces then printing them right away. Let's check titles, we can suggest or talk about possible other titles na fit sa piyesa. Not saying na it's not good but still, it's a publication—it doesn't settle on "okay na." I'm talking about redundant and cliche titles.

Lastly, make pieces more inclusive—have translation. This is also a reflection for me, we tell stories of our own community for others to grasp or accept but how can they absorb something they can't understand.

Again, every piece is commendable. Deserve n'yo ng around of applause for not holding back this project. Salamat sa pagpapalaya.
