"Pasko"
by Bannie Bandibas
This is how we call - Christmas.
A day of giving, laughing, eating,
Chatting with an emptied glass
Of beer or wined coconut bearing.
"Tuba" - a simple Filipino drink,
Bought on a one gallon bottle.
Starting to lost what they think -
When they got drunk, even a little.
Dancing is all over the place,
Like there is nobody's watching.
A routine step, above a table face -
On a funky guitar and ukulele plucking.
Families gathered from afar
Just to see their love ones.
On a "Jeep" - a Pinoy car -
Hop in before it runs.
Bringing foods, fatty or fresh,
Healthy, dried, fried or boiled.
A special day of simple dishes
Gives fun, no room to be annoyed.
Loud voices on a KTV machine
For Filipinos are natural born singers.
But even some voices are ruined -
They still sing, just to be noise bringers.
Oh! How I miss this joyous day -
With people around you smiling.
Even problems catch their way,
It is still a time of loving and laughing.
